What is a Mutual Fund?

A mutual fund is a type of investment instrument available to investors who have a common investment objective. The money pooled together from different investors is invested in across asset classes such as equity, debt, gold, money market instruments, foreign securities and other securities as per the investment objective of the individual mutual fund scheme in order to take the benefit of diversification and professional portfolio management at a relatively lower cost.
